How to differentiate between similar and same in Japanese
Similar means two or more things look alike. But different in certain aspects.
Same means two or more things that look exactly and it is same in every aspects.
The phrase "similar but not the same" is oftenly used to emphasize its uniqueness despite the resemblance.
In Japanese,
similar is 似ている。niteiru
same is 同じ。onaji
Thus,
Similar but not the same = 似ているけど同じではない。niteiru kedo onaji de ha nai
