How to say in Dissolve in Japanese

Since the Nara era, people write down their troubles, sickness, disturbances in the family, etc into a piece of paper (in the shape of a doll), and put it into water and it will とける dissolve tokeru.

Grammatical Note: Tokeru vs Tokasu

紙が水に溶ける

kami ga mizu ni tokeru
