How to say in Japanese: Guard
In ancient times, the Chinese emperor was having nightmares of evil chasing after him. Being afraid of evils entering his room at night, he ordered his generals to 見張る miharu stand guard at his doors. Miraculously, he slept well. The next day, he asked the doors to be painted with the picture of the generals, and he slept well every day after that. The generals are called the "Door Gods" that 守る mamoru guard our houses nowadays.
to guard against (sth) = ~を防ぎます ~wo fusegimasu
to stand guard = 見張る miharu
to guard (protect) sth = ~を守ります ~wo mamorimasu
